The Angel Resides in the South
In response to the prompt about the “Angel in the House”, I believe that she still lives but has been rejected as a whole by the modern woman. Due to the many feminist movements throughout the past decades many woman have demanded the right to be free of their Victorian counterpart, I believe the “angel” began her descent around the time women fought for the right to vote.
When this famous movement began women began to shirk their old roles and developed new ones. This newly found freedom led to other movements including that of the 70’s and today’s abortion controversies. In the 70’s women wanted equal status as men in the workplace. This much deserved position is mostly recognized in America, with the few exceptions, such as the south.
I mention the south mainly because when I think of the south I think of a southern belle. Southern belle’s are known for their charm and obedience to men. They also are known for being interesting in men for their status and money, not their face or personality. In the south the Victorian woman is instilled din young girls from birth, and it is obvious that they stand (or crumble) for everything the angel in the house requires.
