Virginia Woolf’s “Professions for Women”

I believe that she is using this statement to make the point that writers have to free their minds when writing. A writer that is tied down by cultural and familiar standards is not free to produce great writing. If you look at some of the best books they often hit on touchy subjects parents and administrators would not like us to read about. One such book is Lovely Bones. This is a book that most students have read is very engaging but if it where up to others I believe we would not be able to read books like this.

4. I think she was referring to her duties as a “Victorian Woman”. She felt that she needed to keep house and attempt perfection to please others when she would much rather immerse herself in great writing.

9. She was very surprised when a piece of work she had mailed yielded her “one pound ten and six”. After which she started and drown herself in the work but she also felt drawn to her womanly duties. Then she proceeded to kill “The Angel in the House”. This experience brought her more creative experiences to draw from.
